Belt and Road Summit

Published on 9 September 2026

I attended the Belt and Road Summit today, where leaders and business representatives from across the participating regions gathered to share insights that were both strategic and forward‑looking. The discussions offered a deeper, more multidimensional understanding of regional development, particularly how the Belt and Road Initiative has evolved far beyond infrastructure — now extending into culture, creativity, and brand expansion. This shift presents a meaningful opening for the IP licensing industry.

One theme that resonated strongly with me was the analysis of the emerging Central Asian markets. Countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have experienced rapid economic growth in recent years, supported by youthful populations with rising demand for new culture, new brands and new creative content. Speakers highlighted that Central Asia is entering a phase of accelerated cultural consumption, and the Belt and Road framework is providing businesses with more accessible pathways for collaboration. It became clear to me that this region represents a new and promising frontier for Hong Kong brands and creators.

At Matrix, we have always been committed to helping local IPs grow internationally. The cultural appetite and policy support emerging from Central Asia open another door for us — one that I believe holds genuine long‑term potential. I sincerely hope that in the years ahead, Matrix will have the opportunity to extend its footprint into Central Asia, bringing Hong Kong’s creativity to an even broader global stage.
