The Vision of “H.A.D. Walk”

HULU Culture presents the unique characteristics of various districts to promote the preservation of local heritage. Through a dynamic blend of community education, creative design, guided tours, and interactive sharing, the public is invited to explore neighborhoods and gain a deeper understanding of their history, architecture, and cultural identity. The initiative also encourages active public participation in heritage conservation.

By collaborating with diverse organizations, HULU Culture aims to build a platform for community engagement and knowledge exchange. This collective effort fosters social capital and uncovers creative development opportunities that contribute to the sustainable growth of local economies, cultural activities, and creative industries.

TKT – City, Countryside, Hakkas

The inaugural edition of the Heritage X Arts X Design Walk (H.A.D. Walk) launched in 2011, followed by a second edition at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in Sham Shui Po. This year, the event focuses on the rich cultural tapestry of Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung, and Tsing Yi—areas that embody the convergence of city, village, and suburban life.

Once rural, these districts have undergone significant urban development while retaining their distinctive cultural heritage. Tsuen Wan, home to a large Hakka community, was Hong Kong’s first satellite town and is known for its warmth and neighborly spirit—an increasingly rare trait in modern urban life. Kwai Chung, historically a hub for manufacturing, is now a key commercial and industrial zone, housing the Kwai Chung Container Port—ranked among the world’s top three in freight handling capacity since its opening in 1972. Tsing Yi, once a remote island, has transformed into a well-connected community, with the iconic Tsing Yi Bridge symbolizing its integration into the city’s transport network.

Beyond urban development, TKT also offers scenic countryside landscapes and a rich ecological culture. The interplay between urban and rural elements creates a vibrant, multifaceted community with diverse lifestyles.

To commemorate the journey, the organizers designed a multifunctional souvenir—a handkerchief printed with a map of the explored districts. This thoughtful keepsake not only serves as a memento of the experience but also offers practical use, ensuring it remains a cherished item for participants.
